Carcass yield, sensory analysis and meat quality of broilers fed canola meal Animal Sciences
Moraes, Priscila; Novelini, Liliane; Lemes, Jaqueline Schneider; Santos, Marco Aurélio Ziemann dos; Pereira, Cláudio Martin Pereira de; Xavier, Eduardo Gonçalves.
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of dietary levels of canola meal on carcass yield, fatty acids profile, physical characteristics, chemical and sensory composition of breast meat of broilers. A total of 300 one-day-old, both sexes, Cobb broilers were assigned to a completely randomized design with five treatments and six replicates of ten birds each. Birds were given 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% canola meal in place of soybean meal in the diet. After 42 days, four birds per replicate were slaughtered to analyze the carcass yield and the breast was used for analysis of fatty acid profile, sensory analysis and chemical and physical composition. The fatty acid profile was influenced by increasing levels of canola meal, decreasing (p < 0.05) the content of...

CATTLE ON FEED EVALUATION, PART I: FEEDLOT MANAGEMENT PRACTICES AgEcon
Dargatz, David.
The NAHMS Cattle on Feed Evaluation (COFE) was designed to provide both participants and the industry with information on the nation's feedlot animal population for education and research. The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) collaborated with NAHMS to select a statistically valid producer sample (3,214 producers) to provide inferences to the nation's feedlot animal population. Included in the study were 13 states that accounted for 85.8 percent of the U.S. cattle-on-feed inventory as of January 1, 1994. NASS telephone interviewers contacted a total of 3,214 producers by telephone or personal interview from August 1 through September 16, 1994 for Part I. Contact for this paper: David Dargatz

Changements ontogéniques de la condition larvaire chez une espèce de poisson à reproduction hivernale, le hareng des Downs ArchiMer
Denis, Jeremy.
The larval condition of Downs herring during the critical period was investigated between 2008 and 2015 in the eastern English Channel and Southern Bight of North Sea from data collected during the International Bottom Trawl Survey (IBTS). First, the study of the feeding strategy from gut contents analysis using two complementary approaches (electronical microscopy and measure of fluorescence) revealed a shift in the feeding diet occurring at a larval size of 13 mm. Smaller larvae had an omnivorous and a more diversified diet composed of numerous protist and small zooplanktonic preys whereas bigger larvae had a less diversified diet composed mainly of bigger zooplanktonic prey. Along with the diet shift, combination of four condition indices (ingestion...

Al-lihaibi, Ss; Al-sofyani, Aa; Niaz, Gr.
Three species of corals Stylophora pistillata, Lobophyllia corymbosa and Echinopora gemmacea were collected from Sharm Obhur to study their chemical composition. This information was important in the investigation of their metabolic pathways and their mode of feeding. The concentrations of amino acids in these species were 9.37, 21.35 and 3.09 mg.g(-1) dry weight of coral respectively. Plant pigments were highest in E. gemmacea followed by S. pistillata and then by L. corymbosa. Lipid concentrations in S. pistillata, L. corymbosa and E. gemmacea were 1.90, 8.58 and 1.32 mg.g(-1) of total coral respectively. The fatty acid methyl esters were analyzed in these species and the most abundant saturated acids were 16:0 and 18:0, while unsaturated acids included...

Clinical and nutritional profile of individuals with chagas disease BJID
Geraix,Juliana; Ardisson,Lidiane Paula; Marcondes-Machado,Jussara; Pereira,Paulo Câmara Marques.
Chagas disease (CD), caused by the protozoan Trypanossoma cruzi, affects approximately 18 million individuals in the Americas, 5 million of which live in Brazil. Most chronic sufferers have either the indeterminate form of the disease, without organic compromise, or the cardiac or digestive forms. Despite the importance of this disease, there is no information on the effect of nutrition on CD evolution. We evaluated the clinical-nutritional profile of individuals with CD treated at the Tropical Diseases Nutrition Out-Patient Clinic of the Botucatu School of Medicine, UNESP. A retrospective cohort study was performed between 2002 and 2006, on 66 patients with serum and parasitological diagnosis of CD. Epidemiological, clinical, nutritional, and biochemical...

Clustering of ingredients with amino acid composition similar to the nutritional requirement of Nile tilapia Scientia Agricola
Bicudo,Álvaro José de Almeida; Pinto,Luis Fernando Batista; Cyrino,José Eurico Possebon.
The search for balanced diets, which may elicit improved growth of fish, requires appropriate selection of available protein sources. This study aims at clustering feedstuffs according to amino acid profile, determining which ones show essential amino acids (EAA) profiles closer to the ideal dietary amino acids requirements of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), and studying the relationship among amino acids feedstuffs groups. Tabled data on EAA more cystine and tyrosine, in relation to lysine contents, of 40 feedstuffs ordinarily used to formulate fish diets were studied. Feedstuffs were grouped according to amino acids profile by cluster analysis of Euclidean distances. The principal components analysis was used to determine the relationship among...

Cobalt and molybdenum concentrated suspension for soybean seed treatment Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Lana,Regina Maria Quintão; Faria,Marcos Vieira de; Bonotto,Ivan; Lana,Ângela Maria Quintão.
The concentrated suspension (CS), the basis of Mo trioxide, allows high Mo concentrations and is therefore a technical advance for seed treatment, since it allows the recommendation of the Mo at lower dosage than with the liquid solution formulations (LS). The purpose of this research was to evaluate the efficiency and doses of fertilizer with Mo and Co in concentrated suspension in comparison with liquid solution as well as fertilizers associated with phytohormones, applied in seed treatments, and their effect on soybean yield. Two experiments were carried out in the growing seasons of 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 at the Universidade Federal de Uberlandia (UFU).The first was conducted in an experimental area on the Fazenda Capim Branco, with six treatments and...

Colloque sur l'aquaculture - 22 - 24 octobre 1973 - Brest ArchiMer
Laubier, Lucien; Reyss, Daniel.
